Faded Ink is an independent documentary podcast about stories that have faded from the headlines but should not fade from history.

Season One, The Osceola County Carjacking Murders, examines a 1992 case that began outside St. Cloud, Fla. and changed the lives of everyone involved. Two young men were murdered, another was shot and survived, and four men were eventually convicted in state and federal courts.

Drawing on original newspaper coverage, thousands of pages of court and investigative records, and new interviews with people connected to the case, the five-episode series reconstructs the crime, investigation and trials — then follows the story through more than three decades of imprisonment, appeals, conflicting accounts and consequences.

Along the way, Faded Ink examines larger questions about youth, violence, race, redemption and justice — and about what happens when memory, legal narratives and lived experience do not always line up.

Because some stories should not be forgotten.

About the Host

Kristin Hurst is an award-winning freelance journalist who currently writes for the Osceola News-Gazette in Kissimmee, Fla. where she began her journalism career as a crime reporter. She began covering the Osceola carjacking murders during the first federal trial in 1993 and continued reporting on the state prosecutions that followed.

More than 30 years later, Hurst has returned to a story she thought she knew, comparing the original evidence with the version of the case that took shape over decades. For Faded Ink, she has reviewed thousands of pages of court and investigative records and conducted new interviews about the case with defendants, attorneys, investigators and experts.

Her reporting explores not only what happened, but how a story changes over time — as memories fade, records are interpreted and disputed accounts become part of the official narrative.
